The Hate U Give

The movie “The Hate U Give” is a powerful movie that illustrates the two lives of a young girl named Starr Carter. She is a young Black woman who switches between her poor black community she lives in and the wealthy, mostly white, prep school that she attends. She witnesses the murder of her childhood friend by a police officer. The social injustice seen in this movie is seen through the media when they portray the victim as a drug dealer instead of an innocent victim that was targeted and killed through police brutality. Starr Carter stands up for the truth to bring her friend justice for his death.
