On the Basis of Sex

The movie, “On the Basis of Sex” is about a female attorney who faces many challenges in her fight for equal rights. Ruth Ginsburg takes on a case in which she defends an unmarried man who is the sole caregiver of his parent. The 14th Amendment to the US Constitution says that all people must be treated equally, however, not everyone is treated equally. Women were considered the caregivers and men the breadwinner. However, Ruth Ginsburg convinced the courts that these laws were unconstitutional. The social injustice that I observed in this movie is gender discrimination. The gender discrimination in which Mr. Moritz faced in regard to the caregiver deduction on taxes law and the gender discrimination Ruth Ginsburg faced as a women growing up in a man’s world during those times. Many laws have been changed since then but the fight for equal gender rights continues.
